David Hewson has been visiting Venice since the 1990s, and writing about it almost as long. The city appears in more than a dozen of his novels — its labyrinthine streets, its acqua alta, its habit of concealing things. He is co-founder and international director of Venice Noir, the city’s annual crime fiction festival.
