Simple Scrivener tip: mark off your scenes

Here’s a really simple tip — Mac only at the moment I suspect — for reminding yourself which scenes in Scrivener need further attention at some stage. Answer: change the folder icon in the Binder like this so you can set a visual cue.

Yes, you can make notes and set a status and do text things that perform the same function.

But being someone of little brain I find visual cues so much simpler to follow. And they’re really dead easy to accomplish. Just right click on the scene concerned and you’ll get the option below. Lots and lots of icons to choose from (perhaps too many so make sure you pick a select few). Choose the icon. That’s it. And you can go back the same way.

What would you use this for?

  • A quick reminder of draft scenes that need revision to take into account something new in the plot.
  • Note of something that ought to spark a follow-up later on.
  • A reminder that a location needs further research or expansion.

I’m sure there are lots more uses than that. Invent your own.
